More than a few people, who were born and raised in Maine, have told me a person has to be born here in order to be a Mainer. One of my coworkers said he had been here for most of his life and still wasn't a Mainer, because he was born in Massachusetts. I attribute this attitude to the sense of pride people from Maine have about their home state.
