Sears is closing another 29 stores and 11 K-Marts to try and survive bankruptcy.

One of those 11 K-Marts is the one in Waterville on Elm Street. No Sears are closing in Maine. The latest rounds of closings will happen in February.

According to NewsCenter Maine

Sears Holding is already in the process of closing about 188 stores: 142 announced in October that will close around the end of 2018 and 46 announced in August that will close in November.

This latest rounds of closings will leave the company with only 500 stores. Back in 1981 there were 2,055 K-Marts and just in 2010 there were 3,500 Sears! That was down to 695 in 2017.

For those of us old enough to remember how huge Sears was, this is sad to watch. When that giant catalog came in the mail, there was nothing more exciting. You could turn to pages and page and pages of toys.

Times change....
