What is a best friend? If you were stranded with a flat tire, they would pick you up. If you just broke it off with your significant other, they may meet you for a cocktail to mull it over. But when it comes to animals, this story proves there is still so much we don't understand about beasts.

Capitan, a German shepherd, ran away from home after its owner, Miguel Guzman, died in 2006. A week later, the family found the dog sitting by his grave in central Argentina.

Miguel Guzman adopted Capitan in 2005 as a gift for his teenage son, Damian. And for the past eight years, He has continued to stand guard at Miguel's grave. The family says the dog rarely leaves the site.

Miguel's family searched for the dog but thought he must have got run over and died.

When they went to the graveyard a week later, Damian recognized his pet. Capitan came up to them, barking and wailing as if he were crying.

Adding to how strange this is, a family member says they had never brought Capitan to the gravesite before he was discovered there. She says it's a mystery as to how he found the place.

The cemetery director says he and his staff began feeding and taking care of Capitan. He says he showed up one day and was wandering around the cemetery 'til he found his owner's grave. He will walk around the cemetery during the day but promptly returns to the grave at 6pm every night.

The Guzman family hasn't left Capitan behind. They have tried several times to bring him home but he always returns to the cemetery on his own.

Man's best friend, even in death. Heart warming and makes me want to squeeze my little Paco a bit tighter today. Not much tighter though, because he's a Chihuahua and I might squish him. Extra treat for your Fido tonight!
