Lobsterman Doug Wyman told WMTW he had found some odd things in the ocean, but this had to be the strangest. He and his friend were reportedly fishing on Sunday when they came across a military projectile. Wyman said it was six to seven feet long and had a black tip on the end with the words "loaded projectile" on it. The object was caught in the gear of another fishing boat off the coast of Harpswell and brought to Bailey Island Lobster Wharf, according to our news partner WMTW. It's unclear whose boat the TV station was referring to. How long the projectile had been in the ocean and why are also unknown.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office investigated on Monday morning and told WMTW that the projectile looked intact without any rust or corrosion. The Maine State Police Bomb Squad was also on the scene. The bomb squad detonated the projectile in a nearby sand pit, as per WMTW.
