Silver Lake in Hollis is a popular destination in the Summer for boating, fishing, and swimming. But this summer is a different story.

As of June 12th, an advisory has been issued by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services because bacteria called cyanobacteria was found in the water. Human contact with the water could cause painful skin rashes and in extreme cases, death.

This bacteria is found in the form of blue-green algae blooms. Dartmouth College and UNH have been studying these blooms for the past few years. Evidence has been found that links human exposure to these blooms with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease)

I know it's been hot and jumping into a lake is so refreshing; but trust me, you don't want to mess with this.
