There's something about nostalgia. There are some places that I really miss in Maine. I wish they would come back...

I MISS LEVNISNKY'S IN PORTLAND ON CONGRESS STREET

It used to be here, on the corner of India and Congress. This Portland Levinsky's was THE place to get your clothes. Especially your Levi's. My favorite part was the basement. I know they are in Windham...but it's not the same. And I miss hearing Eric Levinksy. I think he called himself the 'Lord of Levi's' or 'Prince of Pants'...can't remember. Now this location is some sort of Maine Med Center.

I MISS TOMMY'S HARDWARE AND DIVE SHOP

If you turned around from shopping at Levinsky's there was Tommy's Hardware and Dive Shop. I knew the owners Jeff and Theda. I spent many a day doing live broadcasts and shopping in this super funky store. I bought the coolest coat there. I have never needed anything to dive, but they sold that too. It was then  'Angela Adams'. A beautiful store that is way outside my price range. I truly don't know what is there now...but I know it's not Tommy's.

I MISS PORTEOUS CLOTHING STORE

Porteous had been in Downtown Portland since 1904 and at the time was the biggest department store in Maine. It closed not long after I moved to Maine in the late 80's. For a while, Porteous was the department store you shopped at. They had locations all over Maine and then moved into the Maine Mall. That was the demise of their Portland store...and unfortunately, the whole chain. The nice thing is that the building now holds the Maine College of Art.

I MISS SERVICE MERCHANDISE IN SOUTH PORTLAND

There's something very weird and unique about getting your goods in the back of the store on a roller. I shopped at Service Merchandise all the time. Hell, I bought my first big combo stereo system there. You know, turntable, cassette player and big speakers. All with a glass door that closed with a magnet. It cost like 200 dollars and was the nicest thing I owned. Now the location holds a couple of strip mall shops. I'd love it if they came back....

I REALLY MISS 'CARBUR'S' ON MIDDLE STREET IN PORTLAND

This used to be the place to go for a fun night out with a menu that never ended. Who remembers the 'Down East Feast' sandwich? The menu was like a book!

I'll never forget that I had a 'business' lunch there when WBLM was thinking about hiring me. They took me to lunch! How funny is that? I was just someone in the office...and they took me to lunch. Ahhh, those days are long gone as is one of my favorite Maine restaurants. Now the location on Middle Street in Portland is some business I have never been to. To be honest, I haven't been even in the building in probably 15 years...

What do you miss?
