The Saco Drive-In on route one has a fascinating history that very few people know about. A few years back the drive in won a national contest and was able to not only stay open, but upgraded their projectors to an all digital format.

The Saco Drive-In was the very first drive in theater built in Maine, and is one of the few left in the state. It's the 17th drive-in ever built and is currently the 2nd  oldest drive-in in America. The drive in opened for the first time on July 15th 1939 showing the movie "Forbidden Music" starring Jimmy Durante. The cost was just 35 cents, children 12 and under were admitted free.

One summer night in 1967 a Canadian Judge was apparently unhappy with the movie he just watched at the Drive-In and decided to drive his brand new car right into the projection house at full throttle! No one was hurt but there was a lot of damage to one of the projectors, the sound amplifiers, and of course the projection house.
