It's never too late to try something new!

I recently took my daughters, 6 and 7 years old, to Happy Wheels in Portland. I thought it would be a family friendly good time. Then when we got there, I realized...I've NEVER done this before!

I tried ice skating a few times last year, and it was HARD. But roller skates are MUCH different...at least in my head they are. I feel much safer on four thick wheels than I do on a single blade.

Either way, the thought of falling is terrifying. If my kids fall, it's no big deal...they're low enough to the ground that it's not going to hurt them as much. But for someone my size...if I fall, I'm falling HARD.

At first, I was very uneasy. But once I started to figure out what I needed to do to get going and stay up, I did better.

Here's the thing that I discovered - roller skating is a lot like LIFE. You're not going to have any fun until you stop worrying so much. Once I stopped worrying about falling and built up my confidence, I did great...and it was SO much fun.

And here's the funny thing - I dd end up falling a few times. And guess what? I didn't break anything! It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

It's amazing how you can apply this lesson to lots of other things in life.
