Like many parents, I found myself looking for things to do during our overcast April vacation week. After hanging around the radio station for a bit, I took my daughter and one of her besties for a quick walk up Congress Street to the newly renovated Portland Museum of Art. My pictures can't possibly do it justice, but I hope they are enough to inspire you to visit.

Degas, a classic. Ooh, there's a Renoir hanging on the wall behind it!

The girls found a lot to love, including this crystal encrusted trophy piece.

I was captured by this painting that seemed to be melting. It is called, "Warped Clipper Ship" and it's made out of ceramic. It was astonishing.

Speaking of fooling the eye, this is an amazing trompe l'oeil painting. It looks so real!

The museum is filled with every imaginable art medium, including installation art. When we first came upon this display of sardine cans we thought it was unfinished or being taken down. We talked about it for a few minutes before realizing that it was a re-creation of the artist's studio space. It did what it was meant to do, it drew us in and caused a conversation about what it might mean.

The Portland Museum of Art is for all ages and gives us the opportunity to view an amazing range of art; from the classics, to the whimsical, glass, wood, paper mache, the tragic to the ridiculous. You will ooh and ahh, be moved and left in awe. I walked away happy to have experienced the trip with my daughter and her friend, and feeling inspired to create something of my own.
