Boston’s Version Of Portland’s Back Cove [PHOTOS]
If you've ever been to Portland's Back Cove AKA "The Blvd" you may be happy to know there's a very similar version two hours south.
Every day I try to get out the Back Cove for my 3.5 mile walk/run. In the last few weeks I've had to make a few trips home for some family stuff and wanted to keep the momentum going.
So off I went to Castle Island in South Boston where our family has more than a little history. It was my grandfather's favorite place in the world. Then I realized that the place I grew up walking/running at was very similar to my new home's landscape.
It was such a beautiful morning.
Boardwalk on one side.
It's a little shorter than "The Blvd." It's 2.6 miles around Castle Island and the Pleasure Bay loop.
Great view of the skyline just like the Back Cove from Baxter Boulevardl. Those cranes to the right that look like something from and old Star Wars movie is where my grandfather worked as a longshoreman for 50 years.
You can see Logan International Airport in the distance.
This is one of my favorite memories growing up. Papa would take us fishing here. I think I was more interested in the planes taking off at Logan back then but absolutely love this spot!
This was my Great, Great, Great....OK, who my kidding-
Here's one of the differences. Sullivan's fried goodness!
