This is wicked sad. Someone shot a bald eagle in Maine around Day Block Township in Washington County. It had dozens of shotgun pellets in its body.

The Maine Warden Service needs your help. If you hear anything or have information about this crime, contact them. And they are offering a reward.

According to the Maine Department of Inland, Fisheries and Wildlife:

"Under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to a conviction. Maine Operation Game Thief is offering an additional $1,000 for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call either Operation Game Thief (800) 253-7887, USFWS Office of Law Enforcement at (207) 469-6842, or Game Warden Alan Curtis directly at (207) 215-7652."

 

Back in the 1970's, there were only a few dozen pairs of bald eagles in Maine. Now, there are about 500 nesting pairs with 300 eaglets born each year.
