It's not that uncommon for sea creatures to wash up on the shorelines of Maine throughout the year. However, when it's a large shark on a popular tourist beach, that's a bit of a different story. That's exactly what happened on Thursday morning though, as people taking a morning stroll on Higgins Beach in Scarborough were stunned to see a large shark had washed up.

Pictures were shared on Twitter via Amy Cesar, who surmised that the fallen creature was a large basking shark. Crews arrived on the beach to remove the large animal around 9 a.m., according to witnesses.
